Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill (1874-1965)

Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, born on november 30, 1874 in Blenheim palace in Oxforshire. Churchill attended the royal military collage, Sandhurst, before embarking a military career. He was in the west frontier of india and in sudan in 1895. While working as a journalist in the boar war he was captured but escaped shortly after. Churchill became conservative member of parliament for oldham. Later in 1904 he switched to the liberal party because he was unsatisfied with the party he was in. In 1905 when the liberal won the election churchill was appointed undersecretary of the colonial office. He then entered the cabinet of board and trade in 1908, becoming home secretary in 1910. The following year he became first lord of the Admiralty. He held this post in the first months of World War One. However, after the disastrous Dardanelles expedition, he was blamed which he then resigned. Churchill joined the army and was serving for a time on the Western Front. In 1917, he was back in government as minister of munitions. From 1919 to 1921 he was secretary of state for war and air, and from 1924-1929 was chancellor of the exchequer. Due to his support of edward Vlll he became unpopular and it was known as his "wilderness" age.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill described as "an English-Speaking Union." Churchill had authored five books by the age of 26. His daring escape from a Boer prison camp in 1899 made him a national hero and ushered him into the House of Commons, where his career spanned 60 years. Churchill died on 24 January 1965 and was given a state funeral.
